Plans involving a proposed solar energy facility on Lockport Road took a few steps forward at Wednesday night's Town of Niagara regular board meeting. The project first gained traction at last month's board meeting, after board members authorized Supervisor Lee Wallace to sign a non-binding letter of intent. The letter allowed solar energy firm Nexamp Inc. to begin a study for a proposed solar energy project at a former Niagara landfill property owned by the Town of Niagara and located at 4798 Lockport Road.

The Niagara County Community College Small Business Development Center (SBDC), in conjunction with NCCC Workforce Development will hold a free online training workshop for Western New York businesses to help them prepare for reopening. It will be held from 9-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 27. The presentation will be repeated later the same day from 1-3:30 p.m.

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski on Friday said that, in compliance with Gov. Andrew Cuomo's executive order 202.29, the Department of Motor Vehicles offices in Niagara County, like those across the state, will remain closed for face-to-face transactions through June 6.

In the early weeks of the lockdown, Niagara County Legislator Jesse Gooch knew he wanted to do something for his district's senior community. He partnered up with local food truck vendor J&L Boulevard BBQ to begin "Meals with Heart from 6 Feet Apart" to offer seniors $5 dinners (pickup only) from 5-6 p.m. each Wednesday at the Wheatfield Town Hall, 2800 Church Road.

As part of a "Salute to WNY," a 914th Air Refueling Wing KC-135 from the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station and three F-35 fighter wings from the Vermont National Guard flew over parts of Western New York on Tuesday to salute frontline COVID-19 health care workers, essential employees and emergency responders. The planes were slated to fly over almost a dozen-and-a-half medical locations throughout the late morning.
