On Earth Day last week, officials from Lafarge North America met with Town of Niagara residents who live near its quarry off Lockport Road to assure them things will be different when the facility reopens this season.
IDA seeks input from businesses on airport

The Niagara County Industrial Development Agency, in conjunction with the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority and area chambers of commerce, is seeking input from the business community to participate in an online survey regarding the Niagara Falls International Airport.
Benefit aids Josh's Journey

The first Benefit for Josh's Journey: A Foundation of Hope will be held Saturday, May 15, at the Frontier Fire Hall, 2176 Liberty Drive, Wheatfield. The event will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. and feature live music performed by Glenda and Chaz; a DJ by U Found A Sound; and appearances by the Buffalo Jills Cheerleaders.
Kaus honored by fellow board members

Niagara-Wheatfield Board of Education members took time to honor fellow board member Maureen Kaus at their meeting last week. Kaus recently announced that she would not be seeking re-election to her seat this year after serving 15 years. Board President Michele Hoerner presented flowers to Kaus.
Kiwanis of Niagara-Wheatfield serves the community

The Niagara-Wheatfield Kiwanis Club served more than 120 hot, delicious, real-maple-syrup-dripping pancakes on March 21, in conjunction with the state's Maple Syrup Weekend. Proceeds of the successful second annual breakfast went to the club's new scholarship program. The scholarships are open to all graduating high school seniors that are current residents of the towns of Niagara and Wheatfield. Applications must be postmarked by May 7 with forms available at area high schools.

Greenway Commission backs plans

The Niagara River Greenway Commission unanimously endorsed all 11 plans put forward in the first round of project submissions. At the board's meeting on Tuesday, 10 commissioners and chairman Robert Kresse signed off on proposals ranging from maintenance at Old Fort Niagara to the reconfiguration of green space on Grand Island.
Greenway Plan approved

The Niagara River Greenway Plan, which began in 2002 as a bullet point in then-Gov. George Pataki's State of the State address, was signed and approved Thursday by state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commissioner Carol Ash. The plan, in physical boundary and purpose, is a series of interconnected points stretching from Lake Ontario to Lake Erie. It was created to complement and herald the region's environmental, cultural and industrial heritage.
