This year's edition of the Light Up the Boulevard Electric Light Parade and Festival, scheduled for Saturday at Grand Island's Town Hall, will feature more activities for both children and adults than previous versions of the same event.

Jose Garcia, who was sworn in as Grand Island's newest council member on Nov. 25 at a ceremony in Town Hall, said his hope is "to help this Town Board push along and perfect the projects that are facing the town to include our sewer improvements and water upgrades. My goal is to try and come up with a standard of how people should expect their town to look like."

Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens has new president/CEO

On Wednesday, the board of directors for the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens announced the unanimous appointment of Erin Grajek as president and CEO, effective immediately. Grajek has served as interim president and CEO since the passing of Mark Mortenson in September. Prior to this role, she was the organization's COO beginning in 2021 and has held various progressive leadership positions at the Botanical Gardens since 2006.
NYS: $100 million to enhance pavement resiliency in every corner of state

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced $100 million to enhance the resiliency of state highways in 70 locations across New York impacted by extreme weather. With project support from the Infrastructure and Jobs Act, a total of 551 lane miles of state highways in every region of the state will be repaved.

Erie County Sheriff John C. Garcia is requesting the public's assistance in locating David Brem, age 66, of Grand Island. Brem was last seen at approximately 10 p.m. Nov. 29. At the time, Brem did not have a cell phone with him and was not operating his personal vehicle.
