Nov. 2-8, 2025, is Drowsy Driving Prevention Week. It is held each year the week following the end of daylight saving time. After falling back, and gaining an hour, some drivers are surprised to learn that the time change can impact their daily routine, which makes this week an ideal time to raise awareness of the importance of proper sleep and the dangers of drowsy driving.

Heading into Halloween weekend, Maid of the Mist will swap out its iconic blue ponchos for orange Halloween ponchos, continuing a tradition that began years ago. The unique pumpkin ponchos will be available beginning Friday, Oct. 31, and will be handed out while supplies last. Ponchos are included with the purchase of a ticket.

The first "Return the Love" clothing drive is happening from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at Buffalo RiverWorks, to benefit Response to Love Center. The event is in partnership between Sweet Buffalo, Totally Buffalo, Alexis Jones, SnapBack Returns and Estelle Esthetics, four woman-owned businesses that wanted to make a difference in their communities and bring new warm clothes to those in need this winter.

Several speakers at Monday's Grand Island Town Board meeting criticized the upcoming referendum that asks voters to decide if the town should buy the current Niagara Hyundai site at 1910 Alvin Road to be repurposed as the town community center. The dealership will be moving to Niagara Falls once a new facility is built there.

To boost awareness of CPR, the American Heart Association and National Football League are unveiling the 2025 Nation of Lifesavers Player Ambassador Class on World Restart a Heart Day, which takes places annually on Oct. 16.
