Mount St. Mary's Hospital and its Neighborhood Health Center conducted its fifth annual "Christmas Shoppe" on Saturday, and provided assistance to more than 110 families and 285 children. The initiative is coordinated by Sr. Nora Sweeney, D.C., community social worker at the Neighborhood Health Center.

The Erie County Agricultural Society has announced a revised gate admission structure. Under the plan, which will go into effect during the 180th Erie County Fair in 2019, full-price, adult gate admission will increase from $10 to $12. The revised admission cost is the first gate increase for the Erie County Fair in a decade.

Prior to her sold-out concert at Shea's Buffalo Theatre on Saturday night, violinist Lindsey Stirling made a special visit to the Ronald McDonald House in Buffalo. The award-winning EDM-pop-classic artist toured the facility, took pictures, hung out with Santa, had a giant cookie and learned about the charity, which provides a home for out-of-town guests fighting illness.

A AAA survey found an estimated 20 million Americans who purchased a real Christmas tree in the past three years did not properly secure it to their vehicle, risking serious vehicle damage and dangerous road debris. Vehicle damage that results from an improperly secured Christmas tree, such as scratched paint, torn door seals and distorted window frames, could cost up to $1,500 to repair. In addition to vehicle damage, Christmas trees that are not properly secured are a safety hazard for other drivers.

This afternoon, Niagara County Community College Public Safety and the Niagara County Sheriff's Office investigated a report of a bomb threat on campus after receiving an email threatening the college. The investigation concluded there was no threat to the campus. We have notified our campus community.

On the afternoon of Thursday, Nov. 8, Niagara County Community College Public Safety received a radio transmission regarding a male down in one of the academic buildings on campus. Upon responding to the call, campus security officers Linda Haner-Mele and Ryan Newton discovered multiple people already on scene assisting with the unresponsive individual.

Recently, the New York State Legislature extended the state's real property tax exemption for structures and buildings essential to agriculture and horticultural use. Niagara County lawmakers approved a $359 million budget plan Tuesday night, reducing taxes to their lowest level in decades, at $7.01 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. That represents a 1.3 percent cut over last year's tax rate. In addition, the 2019 budget is $628,000 below the state-mandated tax cap. This is the eighth consecutive year the county's budget has been under the New York State property tax cap limit.
