New York State Sen. Chris Jacobs announced he will sponsor legislation that will enable telecommunication providers to pre-emptively block phone numbers that are the source of unsolicited automated phone calls. Commonly known as "robocalls," these pre-recorded messages are rising "at an alarming rate," the senator's camp said, as scammers continue to use new technologies to evade "do not call" registries.

Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz was joined Tuesday by Erie County Legislature Chairman Peter Savage (3rd District), Legislature Majority Leader April Baskin (2nd District) and Legislator Barbara Miller-Williams (1st District) to present highlights of the recently adopted 2019 Erie County budget, which was passed by the legislature last week in an 8-3 vote.

Congressman Brian Higgins announced federal funding totaling $6,939,646 for Federally Qualified Health Centers in Western New York. The Community Health Center of Buffalo and Neighborhood Health Center will each receive over $3 million through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services toward services provided at eight local clinics.

In April, Seneca Gaming Corp. announced plans for a $40 million multi-phase beautification and renovation project slated for Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino, its flagship property in Niagara Falls. On Tuesday, officials celebrated phase one completion of this project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the hotel front desk area, as well as a performance by R&B/soul vocal group The Drifters.

The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. board of directors met and gave an update on plans for the redevelopment of the North Aud Block, a two-acre parcel at Canalside. A request for proposals (RFP) was issued recently seeking design, bid and construction administrative services related to the development of infrastructure facilities on the northern portion of the former Memorial Auditorium Block, also known as the North Aud Block.

The African American Veterans Monument committee is one step closer to its fundraising goal thanks to a $200,000 joint grant from Delaware North and M&T Bank. Lou Jacobs (co-CEO of Delaware North), René Jones (chairman and CEO of M&T Bank) and several African American veterans, who now work at both companies, visited the monument site this morning for the donation.

This is the first year that technology teacher Jennifer Rhoads has taught at North Tonawanda, and so far she and her students are having a great time. Not only are they getting to problem-solve with ozobots and drones, it is helping them to bring real world problem-solving challenges to life with engineering solutions. They also learn about collaboration while encouraging them to be creative.

On Saturday, the Town of Wheatfield held its annual Christmas tree lighting and kids party at the town's Community Center. The festivities helped bring in the 2018 version of the holiday season, as Santa Claus arrived via a St. Johnsburg Fire Co. truck and greeted children upon arrival.
