Niagara University Opportunity Program presents annual Christmas benefit concert

Celebrate the season with the Niagara University Opportunity Program as it presents its annual Christmas benefit concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7,in the Russell Salvatore Dining Commons on campus. The event is free and open to the public, though a free-will offering is suggested. Proceeds will benefit Community Missions. Last year, more than $1,000 was raised to support Community Missions' programs and services.

Village officials met recently to review a near-final set of designs for Mason's Mission Playground at Marilyn Toohey Park. When completed - hopefully by next summer - the playground is expected to be almost 14,000 square feet.

Deposits for Food presented donations to two Niagara Falls food pantries last week: Community Missions, and Heart, Love & Soul. The proceeds were obtained from D4F's collections of returnable containers and scrap metal. To date, total donations have topped $55,000.

Joe D'Agustine recently held a toy, comic and collector show at Frontier Volunteer Firehall. He and his two sons, Joe Jr. and Derek, were the organizers of the event. "Joe D" has been doing theses shows for the past 20 years. Proceeds of the food sales and 50/50 went to Variety Club and Children's Hospital.
New York Power Authority fishing piers to close for season

New York Power Authority fishing facilities, including the fishing pier at the base of the New York Power Authority's Robert Moses Niagara Hydroelectric Power Plant, will close for the season at dusk on Friday, Nov. 30. The fishing pier near Upper Mountain Fire Co. at the Lewiston Reservoir and at the water intakes along the upper Niagara River will also close for the season.

Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. held its second open house for the Outer Harbor Access and Activation Project. ECHDC presented three options for First Buffalo River Marina, Wilkeson Pointe to the bell slip, and terminal B. Attendees had an opportunity to comment on the options, provide feedback, and respond to a survey. The projects, funded by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's Buffalo Billion II, will enhance access and facilitate greater public use and enjoyment of Buffalo's Outer Harbor.
TOMS announces campaign to end gun violence, with $5 million investment

On Monday, TOMS announced "End Gun Violence Together," a campaign aimed at helping end the epidemic in America and kickstarting an evolution to the brand's giving model. To launch the campaign, TOMS will invest $5 million into organizations across the country that are committed to addressing the complex nature of gun violence through various tactics, including programming in communities of color, mental health, research and policy, and suicide prevention.
Niagara University's Student Marketing Association takes first in regional case competition

Five student members of the Niagara University Marketing Association won first place in a case competition held in conjunction with the St. John Fisher College American Marketing Association Regional Conference on Nov. 3. The team developed a marketing plan for Karma Wellness Water, which sponsored the event.
