Recently, the Town of Niagara Town Board sat down, reviewed and discussed the proposed 2019 budget. In front of the board members, Town Supervisor Lee Wallace presented a $8,750,012.88 budget, which is $273,985.12 less than the 2018 proposed budget.

New York State Sen. Chris Jacobs joined Wednesday with Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and Common Council members Joel Feroleto and Rasheed Wyatt to announce he secured $1,000,000 in state funding to support the construction of a brand-new, multipurpose indoor athletic complex at Shoshone Park.

Empire State Development and the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets announced $1 million in funding is available to assist early-stage farmers through the New York State New Farmers Grant Fund. The program, now in its fifth year, promotes growth and development in the state's agriculture industry. To date, $3.27 million has been awarded to nearly 90 farms throughout New York to expand their operations and improve their profitability.

During the month of October, the Buffalo, Cattaraugus & Jamestown Scenic Railway will offer a series of fall foliage and Halloween-themed train excursions behind a vintage 1920s-era steam locomotive. Trains are scheduled to operate out of the Village of Hamburg's historic Erie Railroad Depot (4 Scott St.) on Oct. 13-14, 27-28.

The conference provided higher education learning center professionals with the opportunity to discover best practices for tutoring services, data collection and supplemental instruction, while gaining mentorship from others in the field.

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center will conduct a flu shot clinic for adults 18 and older from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16. The clinic will be held on the first floor of the Golisano Center for Community Health, 533 10th St. Both quadrivalent and high dose influenza vaccines will be available along with two types of pneumonia vaccine.

In particular, FASNY asks all New Yorkers ensure their smoke alarms are in proper working order so that they, and their families, are protected against fire.

New York State Sen. Chris Jacobs announced he has secured $300,000 in the current state budget to support much-needed improvements to the Village of Kenmore's aging sewer system. The money will support the utilization of a trenchless pipe rehabilitation system that will enable the village to upgrade its sewers without opening up residential streets.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Friday announced funding for two groundbreaking programs aimed at building a smarter, more responsive power system across the state. The initiatives, funded by the New York Power Authority at a total of $173 million, will help NYPA to collect data more quickly and accurately, and allow for a faster response time to outages and other power grid issues. His camp said these modernizations will ultimately enable a more reliable and resilient power system in New York.

On Friday, Sept. 28, team members from the Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar of Batavia took part in National Good Neighbor Day by volunteering at the Mercy Flight Batavia Airport, the not-for-profit provider of emergency and non-emergency air and ground medical transport and supporting services. The Applebee's staff preformed land maintenance for the airport to provide a well-kept, safe place for the EMS services to perform their duties.

As part of the Magdalene Project, whose mission is to aide those troubled and abused in the Greater Niagara Falls area, Applebee's staff helped cook and serve food for those in need.
