DA Flynn appointed to serve on National District Attorney Association board of directors

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn has been selected to serve as an at-large member of the board of directors for the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA). The appointment comes 19 months after Flynn was elected as Erie County district attorney.
DEC: Help prevent wildland fires

New York forest rangers responded to several smaller wildland fires during the past week. These were either the result of careless campfires or lightning strikes. Due to the dry conditions that prevail throughout most of the state, forest rangers remind people to be careful with fires or ignition devices. It is unlawful to leave a campfire unattended or unextinguished, and to set any fire that may endanger the property of another.

AAA: We're halfway through '100 Deadliest Days'

This week marks the halfway point of the "100 Deadliest Days," the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day when teen driver-involved crashes rise 14 percent compared to the rest of the year. More than 1,050 people were killed in crashes involving a teen driver in 2016 during the "100 Deadliest Days." That is an average of 10 people per day - a 14 percent increase compared to the rest of the year, according to data analyzed by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.

North Tonawanda Mayor Arthur Pappas couldn't believe it had been a year since announcing the last Thunder on the Niagara boat races, but on Monday afternoon, Pappas revealed the family-fun show would make it's return to Gratwick Riverside Park Saturday, Aug. 4- Sunday, Aug. 5.
