Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn has been selected to serve as an at-large member of the board of directors for the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA). The appointment comes 19 months after Flynn was elected as Erie County district attorney.

New York forest rangers responded to several smaller wildland fires during the past week. These were either the result of careless campfires or lightning strikes. Due to the dry conditions that prevail throughout most of the state, forest rangers remind people to be careful with fires or ignition devices. It is unlawful to leave a campfire unattended or unextinguished, and to set any fire that may endanger the property of another.

The fifth annual Oliver Street Art Festival will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, August 4, on Oliver Street (between Schenck and Robinson streets), North Tonawanda. At the June board meeting, William Ross was re-elected for a second term as the chairman of the Niagara County Community College board of trustees, with Vice Chairperson Gina Virtuoso and Secretary Bonnie Sloma being re-elected into their positions as well. Vincent Sandonato was elected as financial secretary for his first term.

This week marks the halfway point of the "100 Deadliest Days," the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day when teen driver-involved crashes rise 14 percent compared to the rest of the year. More than 1,050 people were killed in crashes involving a teen driver in 2016 during the "100 Deadliest Days." That is an average of 10 people per day - a 14 percent increase compared to the rest of the year, according to data analyzed by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.
