USA Niagara Development Corp. (USAN) on Monday issued a request for expressions of interest (RFEI) to determine interest from qualified parties to redevelop a key parcel in the Buffalo Avenue Heritage District of downtown Niagara Falls. USAN gained control of the vacant parcel, located at 305 Buffalo Ave., through a strategic land acquisition earlier this year, made possible through Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's Buffalo Billion phase II.

On Sunday, July 8, more than 700 cyclists will leave their cars behind to pedal along the historic Erie Canalway Trail from Buffalo to Albany in celebration of the Erie Canal Bicentennial and Barge Canal Centennial. They will arrive in Buffalo on Saturday to prepare for the launch of the 20th annual 400-mile Cycle the Erie Canal tour, organized by the statewide nonprofit group Parks & Trails New York.
DEC: $525,000 in grant funding available to improve water quality through tree planting projects

Earlier this week, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the first round of statewide competitive grants for the Trees for Tributaries Program, designed to support riparian tree-planting projects for communities across the state. Approximately $525,000 in grant funding is available to help plant trees and shrubs along streams to improve wildlife habitat, water quality and storm resiliency.

Erie County budget monitoring report reveals robust sales tax growth

The Erie County Department of Budget and Management announced the preliminary findings of the budget monitoring report (BMR) for May, which indicated strong growth of 4.93 percent in sales tax through April, and also showed an accompanying positive variance of $9,552,893 for May year-to-date. By comparison, the May 2017 BMR indicated an unfavorable variance of $8,478,351, which means the May position for Erie County has improved by $18,031,244 when comparing the two years.
