Social Services employees wear blue to raise awareness, support Child Advocacy Center

Niagara County Department of Social Services employees recently held a "Wear Blue Day" to raise awareness about child abuse and to support the Child Advocacy Center of Niagara, a service of Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. By wearing blue and donating a dollar or more each, they demonstrated their commitment to preventing child abuse and supporting strong families. The effort raised $250 for the Child Advocacy Center.
DEC encourages public to help reduce bear conflicts

The Village of Lewiston has a new mayor, as Anne Welch was sworn into office on Monday. Her four-year term began with applause, as family, friends and supporters crammed into the Morgan Lewis Village Boardroom to watch the former clerk/treasurer take the oath of office.

Frontier House charges dropped without prejudice

Town of Lewiston Justice Hon. Thomas Sheeran on Wednesday dismissed the Village of Lewiston's charges against Hastings Lewiston without prejudice. What this means is that, if the municipality moves forward with purchasing the Frontier House, the alleged building code violations become the village's responsibility. If the purchase doesn't happen, charges can be refiled against Hastings Lewiston.

DEC extends Lake Ontario flood recovery general permit

Kearns calls on state DMV to update license renewal notification letter

On Tuesday, Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns held a press conference, calling on the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles to amend what he called "a significant mistake" with its license renewal notifications. The DMV, Kearns said, is failing to alert drivers of the appropriate documents required when applying for a "Real ID" or enhanced driver license.
