Gov. Kathy Hochul announced construction is set to begin on the extension of the "crow's nest" at Niagara Falls State Park. The expansion project includes the addition of new stairs and an overlook structure that will connect the existing walkway feature to Prospect Point at Niagara Falls State Park, providing a new and close-up view of the water.

On Labor Day weekend, visitors to Old Fort Niagara will step back in time to the War of 1812 as the historic site presents "Defending Niagara." Reenactors portraying both U.S. and British forces will gather at the fort for two days of military demonstrations, artillery firings, uniform programs, Regency women's fashions and interactive recruiting programs for families.

Rock 'n' roll royalty, Gene Simmons, visited Niagara Falls on Sunday. He keynoted a press conference outside of the Top of the Falls Restaurant on Goat Island. After speaking about his Rock Steady Sodas partnership with Paul and John Janik and Chris Haick, he traveled to City Hall, where he was given two keys to the city: One from Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino, and a second from North Tonawanda Mayor Austin Tylec.

Art was on display in Lewiston this weekend - and people came out in droves to catch a glimpse of a "crashed satellite," gaze at unbelievable tree faces, and be amazed by a circus act in a food truck - and that was just Friday night! Saturday and Sunday brought the Lewiston Art Festival - and what appeared to be record attendance, with wall-to-wall crowds strolling Center Street.

In celebration of Artpark & Company's 50th anniversary season, Craig Walsh's "Monuments," a temporary installation created by the acclaimed Australian artist, will be unveiled at 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, in Artpark's Amphitheater along the red brick road and upper lawn. The presentation will be preceded by an 8 p.m. performance by Montreal's Cirque Kikasse. Both events are free and open to the public.

The Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY) will bring its 152nd annual convention to Niagara Falls from Aug. 7-11 at the Sheraton and the Niagara Falls Convention Center. Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo were a revelation Wednesday night at Artpark. Despite their having done this - live performance, genuine rock 'n' roll - for a half-century, her vocals were as strong as ever, while his guitar was super crisp. Hit songs and deep cuts sounded as fresh and dynamic as the day they were first released.
