Wheatfield board schedules two public hearings, discusses switch to LED lighting

On Monday night, the Town of Wheatfield Town Board met for their last regular meeting of April. During the meeting, the board scheduled two public hearings and Wheatfield Supervisor Don MacSwan discussed the possibility of switching to LED lighting throughout the town.
Niagara County Central Rotary to hold free breakfast

On Saturday, May 12, the Niagara County Central Rotary will host its annual pancake breakfast in the Niagara-Wheatfield High School cafeteria. The breakfast, which starts at 8:30 p.m., is free to the public and come with pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit cup and either coffee, tea, milk or orange juice.

On Saturday, May 5, the organization will host its annual "Walk for Niagara" at Whirlpool State Park in Niagara Falls. The event helps to raise awareness and funds for the nonprofit organization's crisis and community service programs that provide clothing, food, shelter and other services to those in need.

OASAS announces free statewide naloxone training sessions

The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS) announced it will conduct a series of free naloxone training sessions to be held across the state. The trainings are supported by a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. During the sessions, participants will learn how to recognize, respond to, and reverse an opioid overdose using naloxone.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Monday announced the awarding of $2.9 million in Lake Ontario Flood Relief funds to local governments in Wayne, Orleans, Niagara, Cayuga and Jefferson counties dedicated to restoration resiliency and recovery efforts following last year's flooding, and to protect the community from the damage of future storms. The state has committed $95 million to recovery efforts to support homeowners, small businesses and community infrastructure.

Cuomo on Friday announced a $5 million investment from the Buffalo Billion Initiative that will support the implementation of the Urban Land Institute's recommendations for the historic East Side landmark, Buffalo Central Terminal. Funding will be administered by the Central Terminal Restoration Corp., and will focus the investments on restoring the terminal's historic concourse in order to make the space fully functional for community and private use.
