State Parks announces expansion of free public Wi-Fi

The Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has announced an expansion of the New York State Parks free public Wi-Fi program at select properties. This season, the much-requested service will be available at Gantry Plaza in Queens, Roberto Clemente in the Bronx, Bear Mountain State Park in the Hudson Valley, and additional locations at Niagara Falls State Park in Western New York this season.

To help offset some of outdoor event's costs, the board of directors and Jazz Festival staff will hold their annual fundraiser, "A Taste of Jazz," this year at the Brickyard Brewing Company, 432 Center St. Live music, food and raffles will be offered from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, April 15.

Kearns: New survey shows majority of Erie County registrants want to opt-out of having information sold by NYS

A new survey, conducted at the Erie County Auto Bureaus, indicates vehicle registrants would choose to opt-out of having their information sold by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns collected a week's worth of survey results, totaling 1,500 surveys. Of the Auto Bureau customers surveyed, 95 percent said they would choose to opt-out of having their registration information sold by the state.

Arts Services Initiative of Western New York has announced details of its fifth annual Spark Awards Presented by M&T Bank. The awards party, "Celebrating Those Who Ignite Arts & Culture," will take place from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday May 16, at the Hotel Henry located at the Richardson Olmsted Complex. Empire State Development, WNYREDC announce The Jacobs Institute i2R launch

Empire State Development and the Western New York Regional Economic Development Council (WNYREDC) have announced The Jacobs Institute (JI) launched its i2R, or Idea to Reality, a vascular medical device proof-of-concept center, that will bring life-saving interventions to market sooner. The project, a WNYREDC Priority Project, was funded, in part, by a $4 million REDC grant in round one of the awards and a $400,000 grant in round six.

In an effort to address the opioid crisis in Western New York, a group of 35 orthopaedic surgeons from eight separate practices came together recently to collaboratively develop guidelines for prescribing narcotics after elective orthopaedic procedures. Those guidelines were distributed to all orthopaedic surgeons in Western New York this week.
