New York State Sen. Chris Jacobs announced Friday he has proposed a law that would help keep area waterways clean by reducing residential sewer overflows. The bill, S-6935, would incentivize homeowners to make improvements that would reduce the amount of their stormwater runoff.

Following significant discussion, the Lewiston Town Board, by a 4-1 vote, gave its endorsement Monday of a local law to approve the amended Rubino brothers' concept PUD - with conditions - for a proposed development off Upper Mountain Road near Bronson Drive. The planned unit development covers 107 units, including 91 patio homes and four-unit townhouse buildings on property currently owned by Donald Smith.

The stairs into the Niagara Gorge at Devil's Hole State Park will be reopened on Saturday, Nov. 18, after having been closed all summer so that they could be rebuilt. The stairs had been expected to be closed until spring 2018.

Colvin Cleaners held its first of three "Coats 4 Kids" distributions over the weekend at the True Bethel Baptist Church - and the response was overwhelming. Some 1,500 coats were distributed, which leaves officials concerned about its inventory for the next two distributions. Additionally, almost all of the donated gloves, hats and scarves were distributed.
