As Daylight Savings Time comes to an end on Nov. 5, the Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY) urges all citizens to check their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to ensure their homes are properly prepared for an emergency. Alarms equipped with either removeable or sealed-in batteries both need to be tested. Removeable batteries should be replaced, and sealed-in batteries should be checked to confirm they are functioning.

The Village of Lewiston Historic Preservation Commission gave Frontier House owner Richard Hastings until Nov. 1 to present a plan of action to fix the exterior of his 193-year-old building or be fined a minimum of $250 per day. On Wednesday, his business consultant, Stacey Sheehan, submitted a response to the municipality. She also announced Hastings turned the building over to his son, Alan, who operates The Silo Restaurant on Water Street.
