Sponsors of "Music Mania Mondays," including Niagara Frontier Publications Publisher and CEO Skip Mazenauer, received gifts of appreciation from Town Board members. Also recognized were coaches from the town's recreation department for their commitment to youth in the town.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced Friday the Niagara Falls Water Board violated water quality standards as a result of an Aug. 15 combined sewer overflow (CSO) discharge that caused a substantial visible contrast to the natural conditions in the Niagara River. The state issued a notice of violation (NOV) to the water board earlier in the day.

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will celebrate the life and career of acclaimed comedian, actor and filmmaker Jerry Lewis, whose irrepressible zaniness and frantic creativity made him a defining figure of American entertainment in the 20th century, with a five-film tribute. The event will take place on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4, in honor of the nearly 50 years Lewis spent hosting The Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon, encouraging viewers to donate to the charity.

The family of the late Robert O. Steinjan Sr. recently visited The Heart Center of Niagara at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center to present a donation of $8,100 in support of the hospital's new inpatient cardiac and stroke care unit. The gift represents proceeds from the second annual Robert O. Steinjan Sr. Memorial Car Show, held this summer at Hoover's Dairy Store in Sanborn.

Classes will meet once a week for 10 weeks at a cost of $149 for the first registered child, $89 for second sibling, and no cost for third sibling or infant with registered sibling. The Erie County Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry has announced the completion of a new kayak launch at Ellicott Creek Park. Located at the corner of Niagara Falls Boulevard and South Ellicott Creek Road across Ellicott Creek from the main entrance to the park, the launch is in an area that has long been a hotspot for kayak and canoe enthusiasts.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Tuesday announced high-speed, open-road, cashless tolling will begin at the Grand Island toll barriers in March of 2018. The transition to cashless tolling will not affect the Grand Island resident discount program and is designed to reduce congestion, improve safety and reduce air pollution.
