Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz, Erie County Environment and Planning Department Commissioner Thomas R. Hersey Jr., members of the Erie County Fishery Advisory Board and various community partners gathered at the Niawanda Park Pavilion in the City of Tonawanda to announce recent updates made to the existing "Erie and Niagara Hotspot Fishing Map" online application, and to demonstrate the new features that will help identify additional fishing locations in Western New York.

The Niagara Falls Community Development Department is seeking purchase/renovation proposals for 520 Hyde Park Blvd., due Sept. 1. The 78,000-square-foot building, on a three-acre site between Ferry and Walnut avenues, is the former home of the Niagara Falls Police Department and City Court (vacant since 2008).

Beatty Sr. of Youngstown to reveal an unexpected, but much-deserved surprise for Mr. Beatty: The residential wing of Niagara Hospice House is now known as the Paul R. Beatty, Sr. Residential Suites in honor of the man who is commonly known as "the guy with the Hospice hat."

The Mount St. Mary's Hospital Foundation and Footprints on the Heart held a blessing of the grounds and dedication ceremony Wednesday at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lewiston. Thanks to a donation by Catholic Charities, a community butterfly monument has been established for families dealing with the loss of a baby.

After receiving four strong "yes" votes following her audition, Charles received lukewarm looks and comments from judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B., Howie Mandel and guest Laverne Cox. She failed to advance past Tuesday's "Judge Cuts" episode.

New York State Sen. Rob Ortt on Tuesday announced he secured a total of $1 million for infrastructure projects at three local hospitals. He said the funding will serve as a catalyst for economic growth and job creation. It secured by Ortt as part of the 2017-18 state budget, and supports projects at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, DeGraff Memorial Hospital in North Tonawanda and Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston.

While customers of Confetti Cottage Boutique and Café experience a unique shopping and dining experience, they can also help their community, thanks to boutique owners Deb Burns, Jessica Freeman and Carol Henschel. The owners, who are all retired educators, opened the boutique in November 2015. They have made it a priority to support the development of Niagara Falls and give back to the community.

Internationally renowned percussionist Cyro Baptista collaborated with Buffalo-based sculptor Shasti O'Leary Soudant and students from the University at Buffalo to create a colorful, interactive work called "Beat Blossom." Both were on hand to officially debut the sound-generating instrument on Sunday at Artpark in Lewiston. A dedication ceremony and concert took place inside the Percussion Garden.
