With the growing popularity of local food, people are becoming increasingly interested in raising their own chickens for eggs and meat. As fall and winter are the best times to prepare for new chickens, which are widely available in the spring, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County will offer a series of two classes on raising backyard chickens.

The New York State Department of Labor released the August unemployment report for counties across the state, revealing the unemployment rate in the Buffalo-Niagara region had fallen to 5.2 percent, while the unemployment rate in Erie County alone slipped to 5.1 percent, the lowest it has been in eight years.

Congressman Brian Higgins is once again fighting to save the Kids Korner program at the VA Western New York Healthcare System, which set to expire at the end of 2015. In a letter to the House of Representatives Veterans' Affairs Committee, Higgins, Rep.
