The New York Power Authority board of trustees approved funding Tuesday of up to $2 million for preliminary engineering and environmental review for the first phase of the Niagara Gorge Corridor Project, which is intended to facilitate unimpeded pedestrian and bicycle access to the gorge rim from City of Niagara Falls neighborhoods abutting the Robert Moses Parkway while making possible the restoration of natural landscapes along the gorge.
"The Power Authority is happy to be able to help kick-start the initial phase of the Niagara Gorge Corridor Project," said John R. Koelmel, NYPA chairman.

Assemblyman John Ceretto has announced the education summit originally set for Jan. 6 has been rescheduled to Thursday, Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. inside Niagara Falls High School. The summit had to be postponed due to blizzard conditions in Western New York.

Congressman Brian Higgins, D-NY-26, applauded action by the New York Power Authority board of trustees to approve $2 million toward a project to remove portions of the Robert Moses Parkway in Niagara Falls.
NYPA funding will pay for engineering and environmental clearance for phase one of the Robert Moses Parkway project, officially called the Niagara Gorge Corridor Project, which extends from NYS Route 104 (Main Street) to Findlay Drive in Niagara Falls. According to the agreement, NYPA will pay for:

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli urges New Yorkers to see if any of the $12.5 billion in lost and forgotten money currently being held by his office could be theirs. More than 30 million accounts are unclaimed in New York, some dating back to the 1940s. An interactive map created by DiNapoli's office shows the number of outstanding accounts and monetary values by county.

The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance today issued the first income tax refunds of 2014. Each of the 87 refunds totaling more than $15,000 were direct deposited into taxpayer bank accounts. The average refund was $183, and they range up to $1,356.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has announced that work will begin on Western New York's first design-build project to strengthen infrastructure in Niagara County. The project is composed of a $41.1 million rehabilitation of the three bridges carrying I-190 and NY Route 265 (Military Road) over the New York Power Authority reservoir in the towns of Niagara and Lewiston.
Cuomo passed New York's first design-build law in 2011, "streamlining the bureaucracy of major infrastructure projects to speed construction schedules and reduce cost."
