In recognition of Veteran's Day, National Grid is highlighting its programs to attract and retain veteran employees. Troops To Energy Jobs is an initiative in which National Grid has partnered with five other energy companies across the country, and the Center for Energy Workforce Development, to develop an accelerated process for bringing military veterans into the energy industry workforce nationwide and locally across New York state.

The Greater Niagara Ballet Co. held its most successful "Breakfast with the Sugarplum Fairy" to date on Saturday. Families packed Antonio's Banquet & Conference Center in Niagara Falls. There, they enjoyed a meal, took pictures with GNBC dancers and bid on a bevy of basket auction items. Young children took part in a dance lesson and heard a holiday story.

From that moment on, Sanger has been an unstoppable local force in spreading kindness through the giving of simple gifts. This year, she will have packed more than 1,800 shoeboxes full of gifts to needy children through Operation Christmas Child.

Local citizens of all ages are invited to participate in this year's "Flames Through Lewiston" program, which will coincide with the unveiling of the new Tuscarora Heroes Monument on Thursday, Dec. 19. Prizes will be awarded to the actors who best portray the citizens who ran for their lives when the British invaded and turned Lewiston into a pile of ashes exactly 200 years ago to the day.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced the completion of Phase 1 of the restoration of Prospect Point, which is one of the most popular areas of Niagara Falls State Park. The ribbon-cutting took place at the same time that ground was broken for Phase 2 of the restoration project. The project is part of Governor Cuomo's NY Works program.
"Niagara Falls State Park is one of Western New York's most valuable tourism assets - a stunning natural wonder that attracts millions of visitors from all across the world each year," Cuomo said. "Under our NY Works program, we have completed the first phase of restoring Prospect Point as part of an ongoing project to improve the state park and enhance the experience of those who come to visit. Coupled with our efforts to revitalize the community of Niagara Falls, this investment in the park will help attract more visitors, boost tourism in the whole region, and grow the local economy."
