Congressman Chris Collins and families affected by juvenile diabetes came together Monday to support the Kids First Research Act (H.R. 2019). Collins is a co-sponsor of the legislation that would eliminate federal funding for presidential campaigns and party conventions, and reallocate the funding to expand pediatric research at the National Institutes of Health.

For its second consecutive year, the Niagara County SPCA is hosting the "Dog Days of Summer," a celebratory event dedicated to the furry companions pet owners enjoy and adore.
The event takes place on Saturday, Aug. 3, and Sunday, Aug. 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on shelter grounds, located at 2100 Lockport Road in Wheatfield. The event is non-exclusive and free of charge.
Amy Lewis, the shelter director for the Niagara County SPCA, believes the main purpose of the event is to "Get people onto shelter grounds and bring a bit of fun to the SPCA."

The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission is planning a series of commemorative activities in honor of its 75th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge.
"To properly acknowledge and pay tribute to 75 years of effective, binational service to the Western New York and Southern Ontario regions, the commission has a series of exciting events and activities planned for the second-half of 2013," said NFBC Chairperson Thomas G. Pryce.

This one will be located at the North Tonawanda City Hall, 216 Payne Ave., on Friday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The mobile command center will assist those affected by the flooding with filling out applications and assessing damages.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has announced more than $1.8 million to provide low-income senior New Yorkers with access to farmers' markets across New York. The funding will provide more than 100,000 seniors with access to healthy food at 470 farmers' markets through the Farmers' Market Nutrition Program. New York state operates one of the largest such programs in the nation.
