Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County has announced the 2013 Niagara County Fair kickoff event, the Farm-City Breakfast, will be sponsored by Niagara County Community College.
On July 31, more than 600 people will enjoy a homestyle breakfast in the food tent at the Niagara County Fair located on the fair grounds at 4487 Lake Ave., Lockport. The festivities begin at 8 a.m. Tickets for the Farm-City Breakfast are available now in the CCE-Niagara County administrative building or the day of the breakfast for $7. The NCCC mascot will be at the breakfast with a free giveaway.

"Sunday Cabaret," a popular collaboration between Community Missions and the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York, will kick off its second season with a picnic on Saturday, July 27, from noon until 2 p.m. The event, to be held at CMI, is open to all and will allow the agency to show its appreciation to all those who made the project a success.

Gallivan was honored Monday night with the New York State Rural Schools Association "Appreciation Award" for his advocacy and leadership on behalf of the rural schools and students of New York state. The New York State Rural Schools Association presented the award to Gallivan at its annual conference at the Otesaga Resort in Cooperstown.

BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York has announced that the Gates Vascular Institute/Buffalo General Medical Center and Mercy Hospital of Buffalo have been named Blue Distinction Centers+. They were recognized for excellence in cardiac care and are the only local hospitals to receive this designation.

Congressman Brian Higgins is cosponsoring H.R. 2459, the Protect Overnight Delivery Act, introduced by Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro. The bipartisan legislation, which has 72 cosponsors, would protect overnight postal delivery by preventing the Postal Service from weakening delivery standards.

An occupational therapist, she was appointed to a three-year term on the board by State Sen. Trustees in the Village of Lewiston approved a development plan for 765 Fairchild Place, site of the former Fairchild Manor, at Monday's monthly board meeting. Goldin Management, a Brooklyn-based property management firm, recently purchased the $1.66-million, almost 1.6-acre property and will convert it into 24 condominium units.

HARBORcenter Development has announced an agreement was reached with Marriott International and Shaner Hotels to develop and operate the hotel facility at HARBORcenter in downtown Buffalo. The hotel property, which has been awarded a full-service Marriott franchise to be operated by Shaner Hotels, will be part of a $170 million multi-use hockey and entertainment complex in the Canalside District.

State Sen. Mark Grisanti, R-I-60, will hold a press conference at the SPCA on Ensminger Road in Tonawanda to urge Gov. Andrew Cuomo to sign Bill S.3753 into law. This would hand regulation of pet handlers and breeders from the state over to municipalities, in an effort to hinder rampant abusive pet breeding and holding techniques.

On Thursday, before the first performance of "The Sound of Music" at Artpark, a special presentation took place on stage. George Osborne, president of the performing arts venue, dedicated the eight-show run to Brother Augustine Towey, C.M., the visionary leader of Western New York's theater community who passed away last Thanksgiving.

Jesse Gooch first hosted Goochfest in 1995 as a neighborhood attraction with live music and a comfortable party atmosphere among friends and neighbors.
Since 2006, the party's attendance has expanded into an annual charity event. Each year, Gooch has selected a charity to which he donates ticket sales and other proceeds.
Eventually, Goochfest's attendance and popularity grew to such an extent that Gooch's Wheatfield back yard simply couldn't hold all in attendance, and so the decision was made to relocate the party to the Lions Club.
