The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra celebrates the region's rich heritage and the tradition of classical music with a concert at Old Fort Niagara in Youngstown at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29.
BPO Associate Conductor Matthew Kraemer will lead a concert packed with symphonic favorites by Copland, Rossini and Beethoven, culminating in Tchaikovsky's bombastic "1812 Overture."

Since its opening in 2003, Hansen House, located in Niagara Falls and operated by Community Missions, has provided adults with psychiatric disabilities a first step toward realizing their goal of more independent living. Earlier this month, the East Hill Foundation presented CMI with a $15,000 donation for an upgrade in the facility's kitchen, where many of the essential daily living skills necessary for residents to transition into more independent living environments are taught.

Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman announced that the New York State Legislature has passed the "Certificate of Merit" bill (A. 5582/S.4530A), which will help more New York families avoid foreclosure. The bill enacts common sense reforms to bring greater integrity to the foreclosure process and expedite homeowners' participation in court-supervised mediation sessions where they can negotiate workable alternatives to foreclosure with their lender.

Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman, joined by State Sen. Michael Ranzenhofer (R-Amherst), Assemblyman James Brennan (D-Brooklyn) and nonprofit leaders from across the state, celebrated Friday's passage of sweeping, bipartisan legislation to overhaul the laws governing New York's nonprofit sector. The attorney general's Nonprofit Revitalization Act represents the first major overhaul to New York's charities laws in more than 40 years.

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-C-I-Lewiston, today passed legislation to protect children from abuse by increasing penalties for those who repeatedly assault them. The legislation requires that a sentence of assault in the first degree be handed down to a defendant who has previously been convicted of either assault of a child or attempted assault of a child.

Houghton College and Smart Energy Capital have signed a power purchase agreement for the college to purchase solar electricity from a 2.5 megawatt solar system located on campus. Houghton College will become a site for the one of the largest solar systems on a college campus in New York.

Throughout the '70s and '80s, Artpark was renowned as a major visual arts destination during the venue's popular "Artists in Residence" program. Hundreds of artists journeyed to Artpark's inspirational setting to create on-site installations throughout the park.
This summer, Artpark welcomes the works of more than 40 alumni artists from its long and distinguished visual arts history. The "40 for 40: Artpark Alumni Artists 40th Anniversary Celebration" will feature several alumni artists constructing 16 different on-site installations throughout Artpark.

Assemblyman John Ceretto, RC-I-Lewiston, is calling on the Assembly to pass the Public Assistance Integrity Act, which protects families in need by preventing electronic benefit transfer cards from being used for liquor and lap dances. He said the Assembly must act swiftly on this legislation, which has already been passed by the Senate, before session ends, because federal funding for the state's public assistance programs is on the line.
