On March 23, seven young adults from the Tuscarora Nation started on a 1,200-mile journey, tracing their ancestor's footsteps from 300 years ago. Starting at Snow Hill, N.C., after a monument dedication to the Tuscarora People, they began canoeing, hiking, biking and running their way home to the Tuscarora Nation in New York.

The Lewiston Village Pub and Restaurant's annual fundraiser, Pubfest, returns to the village's Academy Park next weekend with some big changes. Out are the kiddie rides and carnival atmosphere. In are two national bands, The Trews and USS, and an increased emphasis on raising money for the Variety Kids Telethon.

With Memorial Day here, Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman has released a guide listing some of the most common summer frauds targeting the state, and offered tips to protect New Yorkers from abuse.
A growing problem during warm-weather months, unscrupulous scam artists prey on New Yorkers as they embark on home improvement projects and plan family vacations. Schneiderman urged New Yorkers to notify his office of any summer scams designed to dupe unsuspecting consumers.

The New York State Senate passed legislation Thursday that creates comprehensive safety requirements for children's jewelry to prevent exposure to harmful materials. The bill (S3947), sponsored by Sen. Mark Grisanti, R-I-North Buffalo, regulates heavy metals, magnets and batteries in jewelry intended for use by children age 12 and younger (consistent with the federal Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act).

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-C-I-Lewiston, voted Thursday in favor of an exemption for qualified retired police officers from the provisions of the SAFE Act. While Ceretto maintains his opposition to the SAFE Act as a whole and wants to see the entire law repealed, he views this exemption as another step toward the process of total repeal.
