Health System Services helps veterans visit World War II Memorial

On Wednesday, Oct. 17, Health System Services of Wheatfield will help local veterans take part in "Honor Flight." The program, which is co-sponsored by State Sen. George Maziarz, allows veterans to travel to Washington, D.C., and visit the World War II Memorial.

Risky behaviors among 16- and 17-year-old drivers involved in fatal crashes increased when teen passengers were present, according to a study conducted by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. With motor vehicle crashes ranking as the leading cause of death for teens, AAA is calling on parents to get involved and stay involved as their teens learn to drive.
'Fight Cancer from Behind the Wheel'

Facing a cancer diagnosis is difficult enough; worrying about how to get to treatments shouldn't be a concern. "Road to Recovery" is an American Cancer Society service program that provides transportation for cancer patients to their cancer life-saving treatments and home again. Volunteer drivers are urgently needed across Western New York.

Niagara County Industrial Development Agency approves application for assistance for Hotel Niagara

On Wednesday, the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency approved an application for assistance submitted at its September board meeting by JSK International Corp., the company that is restoring the historic Hotel Niagara in Niagara Falls.

In other business, the NCIDA board of directors approved the agency's 2013 budget.

The Lake Ontario counties of Niagara, Orleans, Monroe, Wayne, Cayuga and Oswego, the town of Greece and the City of Oswego are jointly undertaking an update and expansion of the regional harbor dredging management plan, which was completed in 2000. Two public meetings will be held to review preliminary findings and receive public feedback.
