Village of Lewiston: Trustees approve chamber move to welcome center

The Village of Lewiston Board of Trustees approved a motion Monday allowing Mayor Terry Collesano to sign a lease with the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce to relocate the tourism and marketing agency into the Lewiston Welcome Center in Academy Park. The lease takes effect on Jan. 1, 2013, and runs until Dec. 31, 2017.

State Sen. Mark Grisanti, R-60th, has announced that Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed Bill S7652 into law. The measure, sponsored by Grisanti, requires persons or entities operating a telecommunications service system to provide notice when the caller will be charged a fee on their telephone bill.
Grants announced for community-based historic preservation efforts

New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commissioner Rose Harvey has announced that 12 communities across the state will receive grants totaling $141,515 to support local historic preservation activities. The grants, funded from New York's share of the federal Historic Preservation Fund, are targeted to assist certified local governments - municipalities that have enrolled in a local-state-federal partnership to identify and protect historic properties.

As Bell sat behind his new desk, Sam the cat regally accepted a scratch behind the ears and spread out bonelessly claiming more territory. Sam, after all, came to the SPCA first. Bell just started his new job as executive director on Oct. 1.

Higgins, Hochul announce funding for Great Lakes Restoration Initiative

On Tuesday, representatives Brian Higgins (NY-27) and Kathy Hochul (NY-26) announced $1.4 million in Environmental Protection Agency grants awarded through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. Recipients such as the Research Foundation of SUNY-Buffalo State College will use the funds to address invasive species in New York state.
