Wegmans BBQ salutes Town of Niagara's bicentennial

The party isn't over in the Town of Niagara.

This Saturday, Wegmans on Military Road will offer its own salute to the town's bicentennial celebration with its version of a "Town of Niagara BBQ" to finish off the summer season.

Cliffe's bid for term limits fails

For the second time since he was elected, Wheatfield Supervisor Bob Cliffe sought approval Monday for expanding the supervisor's term of office to four years and limiting each supervisor to a maximum of two terms.

Once again, his request for a second on his motion was met by silence from the members of the Town Board.

Cliffe said he had tried to change the individual board members' minds on the matter since he brought it up in his first year in office.

The Dale Association needs volunteers

Free emergency preparedness training available in Cambria

This week's "Fridays on Old Falls" concert series finale is being extended to feature two Western New York bands, Studio 54 and Lakeside Blues Band, on Friday, Aug. 31, on Old Falls Street, USA's, middle block. Niagara University has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence grant to host a visiting foreign professor for the fall 2012 semester. Assefa Beyene Bassa, a Ph.D. candidate at Andhra University in India and a lecturer at Dilla University in Ethiopia, will work closely with several sectors on Niagara's campus, especially its College of Education.

Visitors to this weekend's Historic Lewiston Jazz Festival are advised that Center Street in the Village of Lewiston will be closed to vehicular traffic from the intersection of Center and Seventh streets west to Center and Fourth streets. The Center Street stretch will close at 5 a.m., Friday, Aug. 24, and reopen Sunday, Aug. 26, at 1 a.m.
