State Sen. Mark Grisanti, R-60th, announced Tuesday the Senate has passed bill S.6664, which authorizes a real property tax exemption of 35 percent for a period of no longer than 20 years for homes that are certified green by either being LEED-ND certified or by the National Association of Home Builders.

Assemblyman John Ceretto voted Monday in favor of the Internet system for tracking overprescribing, or I-STOP, legislation that would require doctors to file prescriptions for medications into an online database. Pharmacists would then access the database to confirm requests for medication that might be addictive or dangerous if abused.

Relay For Life of Grand Island is set to take place this weekend at Grand Island High School. The event will start at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 8, and continue through the night until 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 9.
This year marks the 10-year anniversary of the Grand Island Relay For Life. The theme of the 2012 Relay For Life is "A Million Steps of Hope" with Relay organizers aiming to hit the one million dollar mark this year, which will be quite the accomplishment.

Daredevil Nik Wallenda says fees to the New York State parks department and to Ontario's Niagara Parks Commission will be paid by the end of the week as required by his contracts with the two agencies.
Wallenda, speaking Tuesday to Bullet News Niagara, scoffed at the suggestion that permits are not in place and that his walk June 15 over the Horseshoe Falls is in danger of not happening.
"I don't know where this stuff comes from," he said. "There are so many totally wrong stories out there right now. It's unbelievable."
