Maziarz honored with 2011 John Daly Memorial Award as Legislator of the Year

State Sen. George D. Maziarz, R-C-Newfane, reports that he was selected as the recipient of the 2011 John Daly Memorial Award as Legislator of the Year by the Niagara County Federation of Conservation Clubs. Maziarz was awarded this honor in recognition of his outstanding service to the conservation and sportsmen movements.

The Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce has hosted student interns from the Lewiston-Porter High School Career Exploration Internship Program for the past three years. Interning at the chamber this year are seniors Krystina Ventry and Shelby Lehr, who are interested in careers in marketing.

Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Niagara County Community College Department of Nursing have formed a new partnership to offer current students who are pursuing their nursing degree hands-on experience in the medical field. Working in conjunction with the hospital's newly established Center for Women, Mount St. Mary's will accept four students to participate in a paid maternity nursing externship program this summer.

Roman Café took first place in Niagara Frontier Publications' recent Web poll. Readers at www.wnypapers.com were asked to pick their favorite spot for a fish fry. More than 20 restaurants made the list, but Roman Café was the clear choice, with more than 60 percent of the vote.

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, announced Wednesday that he is sponsoring Assembly bill 9284 (A.9284/ S.00866B-Giglio/Young), legislation which would authorize municipal governments hosting tribal casinos to receive payments directly from these Native American groups, which would break a long-held impasse between the Seneca Nation and New York state.
