Artpark volunteers seek fourth go-around

Volunteers representing the food pantries at Heart, Love and Soul, Community Missions and Ransomville Methodist Church seek to collect donations outside of Artpark before "Tuesday in the Park" concerts. They asked the Village of Lewiston Board of Trustees for permission at Monday's work session.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has just awarded New York Sea Grant and Fisheries Specialist David B. MacNeill a USGS Great Lakes Science Center Certificate of Appreciation for a November 2011 trawling workshop. The November workshop attracted 35 American and Canadian researchers and research vessel personnel representing all five Great Lakes.

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, is sponsoring Assembly bill 8800-A, legislation that would authorize the use of school buildings and sites for religious meetings and worship when the facilities are not in use for school purposes. Since the services hosted by these organizations are open to the general public, Ceretto said there is no reason why they should be prohibited from using public buildings.

'Pink in the Rink' at NU

The Niagara University women's hockey team is holding its annual "Pink the Rink" game on Friday, Feb. 3, when they host Mercyhurst University at 7 p.m.

All four of the women's hockey teams in the College Hockey America conference are taking part in the sixth annual "Skate for the Cure" fundraiser. The program was started to help raise awareness and funds toward the fight against breast cancer. In an effort to "pink" Dwyer Arena, the hockey team will wear custom-made pink jerseys and encourage everyone in attendance to join them by also wearing pink.
