Maziarz, Ceretto unveil 'Empower Niagara' petition drive

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, and State Sen. George Maziarz, R-C-I-Newfane, today announced their joint "Empower Niagara" petition drive. The petitions, which call for a Niagara County resident to be appointed to the New York Power Authority Board of Trustees, will be hand delivered by Ceretto and Maziarz to Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
City of Lockport Refuse and Recycling Program Q&A, equipment demonstrations

Lockport First Ward Alderwoman Richelle J. Pasceri will host a refuse and recycling program Q&A and live equipment demonstration from 4 until 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 15, at Widewaters Marina (lower Market Street). All city residents are encouraged to stop by and view the new, state-of-the-art equipment that will be used throughout the city; learn about items acceptable for recycling; handle the refuse and recycling carts; and ask questions.

Peach Festival recruiting cheerleaders

Ceretto comments on higher-ed investment bill

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, released the following statement Tuesday regarding the signing of SUNY 2020 into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Ceretto, who helped pass the Assembly version of the legislation, noted that the bill is designed to enhance investments in the state's university, create jobs through public-private partnerships and establish a rational tuition policy.
Ceretto: new agriculture program a plus for farm to table

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, applauded the announcement Tuesday of the New York Fresh Connect Farmers' Markets (FreshConnect) program, which launches new farmers markets and expands others around New York in order to encourage healthy eating options. Ceretto said the program will help New York farmers sell their locally grown products to consumers in Niagara County.

Deputy Mayor Bruce Sutherland said a team of volunteers is now in place and enjoying interacting with tourists -- including a couple that recently visited from Denmark.

Lewiston proposals before Greenway Commission

The Town of Lewiston Town Board lent its approval last month to three projects aimed at enhancing the Niagara River Greenway corridor. Now under consideration before the Niagara River Greenway Commission is a $500,000 proposal to fund three projects: an ice rink in Academy Park, Artpark event programming and Lewiston Council on the Arts event programming.
