The Democratic committee decided to throw its support behind city council candidates Alicia Liable and Don Zambotti.

Old Fort Niagara commemorates Civil War sesquicentennial

Union soldiers will man the ramparts of Old Fort Niagara during Civil War Weekend, May 14-15. The event will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War in April 1861. Featured will be a Civil War Encampment, rifled musket demonstrations and special tours of the fort that focus on its role from 1861-65.
NU Theatre presents sixth annual Tara Laurie Memorial Award

Niagara University theater studies junior Callie Bush, Class of 2012, has been awarded the sixth Tara Laurie Memorial Scholarship to assist with her NU theater program study abroad experience at Anglo-American University in London this summer. She is one of nine theater studies students who will travel to London this summer with Dr. Sharon Watkinson, chair of Niagara's department of theater and fine arts, and other NU students and faculty.

Niagara University student Earns Best Paper Award from National Political Science Honor Society

Jamison R. Crawford, a Niagara University senior from Grand Island, was recently notified that a paper he presented at the 19th annual Illinois State University Conference for Students of Political Science on April 8 has been selected for a Best Paper Award by Pi Sigma Alpha, the National Political Science Honor Society. As a result, Jamison's paper, one of only four undergraduate submissions chosen, will be published in the fall 2011 issue of Critique, a worldwide student journal of politics.

The minister found the NEC's decision to grant the development permit was incorrect.

A 2011-12 budget proposal was brought to the Niagara-Wheatfield Board of Education on Wednesday evening featuring a 9.5 percent decrease in spending, but a 2.9 percent increase in the total tax levy.
