The Wheatfield family of U.S. Army Spc. Thomas A. Cannuli well remembers the anxiety of seeing "Tommy" go back to Iraq after attending the funeral of his brother Army Spc. Alan N. Dikcis, who was killed in Afghanistan last March.

Local jazz trumpeter Lew Custode will once again donate his talents to help raise funds for this year's Salvation Army Christmas Fund Drive. Custode, best known for his work with the Barroom Buzzards and The Custode & Parisi Jazz Trio, will perform holiday music at various Salvation Army kettle stand locations throughout Niagara County.

Several local businesses have stepped forward to sponsor the Lewiston Historical Association's 2010 Home Tour, scheduled for Dec. 4 and 5. Tickets for the tour are $25 and include admittance to five show houses.

The Old Fort Niagara Association, the not-for-profit organization charged with preserving and maintaining Old Fort Niagara's buildings and programs, launched its 2010 annual fund, titled "Call to Arms," earlier this week. The goal is to raise $120,000 in community support by Dec. 31 to underwrite educational programming and assistance with much-needed preservation projects.
