Neighbors renovate Collingwood Estates entrance

Porter residents living in the Collingwood Estates subdivision recently celebrated the official unveiling of a new entranceway with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and picnic. Over the course of one year, neighbors raised more than $7,000, which was used to upgrade the wall sign that welcomes visitors. Funds were used to landscape the hill, replace wall materials with new masonry, and to create the new gold-leaf mesh sign.

Telescopes will be scanning the skies at the Penn Dixie Paleontological and Outdoor Education Center in Hamburg on Saturday, Oct. 16, beginning at 6 p.m. Telescopes, with filters, will be available to view sunspots and solar flares before sunset. After dark, telescopes will focus on the Penn Dixie Skies to view a first-quarter moon, Jupiter and Uranus in the east, the famous double-star cluster in Perseus, E.T. star cluster, and a variety of other constellations.

Americans over age 65 are five times more likely to be physically inactive than those between the ages of 18 and 24. Many older adults say they don't exercise because they don't have the strength and stamina for it. But this is a vicious cycle. The lack of physical activity actually causes older adults to lose even more of their strength and stamina.
