An angler creel survey on Lake Ontario tributaries will be conducted this fall on 23 tributary streams ranging from the Niagara River eastward to the Black River in Jefferson County. Major stream fisheries the survey will include are: Eighteen Mile Creek, Oak Orchard Creek, Sandy Creek, Irondequoit Creek, Oswego River, Salmon River, North and South Sandy Creeks and the Black River.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office participated in the nationwide driving while intoxicated blitz from Aug. 20 through Sept. 6, culminating in 16 DWI arrests during this 18-day blitz and two arrests for driving while ability impaired by drugs, according to Sheriff James R. Voutour.

Members of the Lewiston Advisory Committee met this week to discuss the people-moving impact of the Lewiston Art Festival, Historic Lewiston Jazz Festival and Kiwanis Peach Festival. The consensus of the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce subgroup was more parking is needed in Lewiston, more organization among festival/event participants would be helpful, and additional manpower (especially police) would make for a safer community.
