The Erie Niagara Sunrise Exchange Club presented its Accepting the Challenge of Excellence (A.C.E.) awards at a breakfast meeting March 25 at the Olympic Restaurant in Kenmore. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced applications are open for the master teacher program and master counselors, which recognizes more than 1,600 outstanding public school teachers and counselors throughout the state. Those selected for the program serve as mentors for students and early career teachers and counselors. New York's teachers may apply at suny.edu/masterteacher. The deadline to apply is May 21.

At its March 23 meeting, the Grand Island Central School System Board of Education honored the officers of the high school's student council, as well as the council's faculty advisers. In addition, the board honored senior Charlotte Tower, who was awarded the National Association of Student Councils (NASC) Scholarship. The LEAD conference (Leadership Experience and Development) was held from Feb. 27 to March 1 in Washington, D.C.
