SUNY Niagara will host its annual Veterans Day ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, on the Sanborn campus. The ceremony will be held at the Veterans Memorial Park, 3111 Saunders Settlement Road. The event is free and open to the public.

Niagara University honored seven individuals for their outstanding leadership and dedication to improving the lives of others at its 2024 President's Dinner on Oct. 29 at the Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino. Proceeds from the President's Dinner benefit Niagara University's scholarship programs. This year's event raised nearly $235,000 toward student scholarship assistance.

The Mason FOREVER Foundation and scholarships are in honor of Mason Sawyer Monteleone. He was interdisciplinary health science major student at the University of Florida in Tallahassee, when he tragically died in a car accident at the age of 21.

Halloween 2024 was celebrated with unusually warm weather and lots of Halloween books. The Lewiston Service Guild sponsored a Halloween celebration with the Tuscarora Nation School by providing a Halloween-themed book for each student, Halloween treats and, of course, cookies and cider.

Niagara University powered up a 17-acre state-of-the-art solar array at its Lewiston campus on Wednesday. The $6.2 million, four-megawatt project, completed in partnership with Montante Solar and Pivot Energy, features 7,500 bifacial solar panels, mounted on a smart "tracker" racking that follows the sun throughout the day to maximize energy production.

The League of American Bicyclists, the premier grassroots advocacy organization encouraging better bicycling and protecting the rights of people who bike, honored the University at Buffalo with a silver-level Bicycle Friendly University Award in recognition of the institution's achievements in promoting and enabling safe, accessible bicycling on campus. UB has received the bronze-level award for the past 12 years.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced New York state awarded about $100 million in grants to support free and low-cost afterschool programs serving nearly 40,000 children in high-need areas statewide. State officials from the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) also participated in the 25th annual "Lights on Afterschool" initiative today by visiting programs in New York City and the Capital Region.

These performers will represent the U.S. in what's called "the Olympics of Dance." On Thanksgiving night, five youth (and five parents) will travel to Poland to join the United States Dance and Sport Competition Federation team.
