Gov. Kathy Hochul has signed legislation that will increase public awareness on job opportunities in New York state. Legislation (A.8458A/S.6803A) will authorize the New York State Department of Labor to develop a public awareness campaign that will promote the New York State Job Bank - an online resource maintained by the NYSDOL to connect job seekers with over 250,000 jobs across all industries.

The New York State Division of Consumer Protection warned New Yorkers of a text phishing scheme targeting cell phone users with an attempt to steal their information. Fraudsters are impersonating financial institutions claiming that a customer's account is compromised "due to unusual activity," but the message is an attempt to deceive the recipient into sharing personal information.

Empire State Development (ESD), its USA Niagara Development Corp. (USAN) subsidiary, and the City of Niagara Falls held a virtual information session Wednesday and announced program components and next steps for the Niagara Falls Strategic Economic Development Initiative. The $40 million plan is intended to spur targeted investment throughout city business districts along Niagara Street, Main Street, Portage Road and Pine Avenue.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the launch of a statewide hotline, 1-800-HARASS-3 (1-800-427-2773), for issues of workplace sexual harassment. The confidential hotline will be operated by the New York State Division of Human Rights and will connect workers who have faced sexual harassment with experienced pro-bono attorneys to advise them.

Tim Kennedy, New York Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes, and City of Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown were joined by the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) and Buffalo Place to mark the near-completion of the latest phase of the "Cars Sharing Main Street" project in downtown Buffalo. The leaders also announced $54.5 million in new funding to continue the work along additional sections of Main Street.

Gov. Kathy Hochul recently announced the opening of the initial intake tool to help small businesses determine their eligibility for the COVID-19 Capital Costs Tax Credit. The $250 million program will support small businesses that made investments to comply with emergency orders and regulations, or to increase public safety, in response to COVID-19. If deemed eligible by the screening tool, a link to the application will be provided when the program application opens.
