Opportunity Fund, the nation's leading nonprofit small business lender, is partnering with KeyBank to launch a program that will offer $140 million in loans to independent truck drivers in New York. This new program will bolster the state's trucking industry, boost the region's economy and replace older trucks with newer clean-burning models.

The USA Niagara Development Corp. board of directors (USAN) met Wednesday and voted to provide NFNY Hotel Management LLC with a $1 million grant for upgrades it made to transform the former Days Inn hotel on Main Street in Niagara Falls into a Wyndham Garden Inn hotel, adding new rooms, remodeling existing rooms and upgrading hotel amenities.

A new working group comprised of five foundations and two consultants dedicated to supporting area nonprofits has hired Katie Pieri as its first director. The collaborative group is focused on Western New York and Monroe County and aims to strengthen communities by increasing the capacities of the nonprofit organizations that serve those communities.

The Historic Palace Theatre has received a $300,000 grant from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation in support of its "Act II - A Grand Restoration" renovation project. This gift will support the Palace's larger $2.8 million "Act II" project, which is already underway, with renovations to the outer lobby, and restoration and repairs to interior plaster completed last October.

Catholic Health has once again received Western New York's highest cumulative overall score in The Leapfrog Group's spring 2019 Hospital Safety Grade Report, and the only "A" safety grades in Erie and Niagara counties. In the national report released last week, Catholic Health hospitals earned three of only 11 "A" safety grades that were given in all of New York state.

The New York State Public Service Commission announced the cost for electricity supply is expected to remain near historically low levels this summer. In addition, peak power demand forecasts continue to fall thanks in part to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's "Reforming the Energy Vision" strategy. The decline in the amount of electricity consumed during the year helps lower costs for consumers and helps save the environment by reducing air pollution from power plants.

Spalding Ace Hardware in Lockport and Standish Jones Building supply in Gasport recently presented Niagara Hospice with $1,593.43, which was raised by asking customers during the month of March to round up their change for Hospice. This year's donation topped the 2018 total by $800 - and officials said they hope to raise even more next year.
