The Buffalo City Mission held its annual "Turkey Express" event, delivering more than 4,500 turkey dinners to the poor and homeless across Western New York. This event marked the first time the event was held at one central location - the new Alfiero Family Center of Hope and Promise.

Gendron of Conklin, New York, pleaded guilty that morning before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan to the highest charges in the indictment against him. When Healing Earth CBD opened in the summer of 2021, public response "was very, very positive," co-owner Brandon Rush said. "You know, obviously there's a huge issue with education. A lot of people come in, and they don't know the difference between marijuana and hemp. They don't know what the difference between CBD and what THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is, or what it does to the body. So, we spend a lot of time educating customers. But I think, overall, it's been a very positive customer experience. I mean, we've done very well; we're obviously still in business."

The state Department of Labor's (DOL) failure to replace its long-troubled unemployment insurance (UI) system and ad hoc workarounds to compensate for the old system weakened oversight and ultimately contributed to an estimated billions of dollars in improper payments during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to an audit released today by State Comptroller Thomas P. Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper, in partnership with the Town of Niagara, has completed a decade-long project to protect and restore a critical forested wetland site along Cayuga Creek in the Town of Niagara. Gov. Kathy Hochul and Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown on Friday announced the establishment of the May 14th Memorial Commission in response to the mass shooting at a Tops Friendly Market on Jefferson Avenue earlier this year. The commission will develop and advise on a plan to site and build a physical memorial in east Buffalo to memorialize the life and legacy of the residents lost that day.

As the 2022 holiday season approaches, it appears the Town of Lewiston Family Ice Rink is being put on the shelf for this year. The Town Board announced last week that, due to a number of concerns - most notably the condition of the ice rink cooling systems and related equipment, plus uncertainties with the rink's Academy Park site - it has decided to suspend the annual holiday feature for this year.
