A site plan from Stavatti Aerospace Ltd. to begin initial construction and repairs at the former Army Reserve base located in the municipality was approved by both the Town of Niagara and Niagara County planning boards last week. The approved plans allow Stavatti to begin remediation efforts to bring building No. 4, a 37,500-square-foot hangar, up to code.

Congressman Brian Higgins announced the Restaurant Revitalization Fund will begin accepting applications at noon Monday, May 3. The program, funded through the American Rescue Plan and run by the Small Business Administration (SBA), will provide struggling restaurants with federal COVID-19 relief. Applicants can register through the SBA's application portal beginning at 9 a.m. Friday.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the New York State Police will conduct "Operation Hardhat" enforcement activities all week in support of National Work Zone Awareness Week, which takes place from April 26-30. During "Operation Hardhat," members of the State Police patrol Department of Transportation and Thruway Authority work zones to enforce work zone speed limits and ensure motorists are obeying flagging personnel.

The U.S. Small Business Administration recently launched a new round of Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) assistance - called supplemental targeted advances - to provide $5 billion in additional assistance to 1 million small businesses and nonprofit organizations that have been most severely affected by the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced the first round of technology partners participating in a new initiative for the Restaurant Revitalization Fund (RRF) - a program that will allow eligible restaurants and other food establishments to access the RRF application or data they need to fill out the application through their trusted point-of-sale (POS) service providers. SBA announced a partnerships with Clover, NCR Corp., Square and Toast in this effort to provide a customer-centric approach to the delivery of relief funds.

The state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) announced all New Yorkers enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for April. Additionally, those households already near or at the maximum benefit level now will receive a supplemental payment of at least $95 per month for as long as the supplemental payments continue.

Congressman Brian Higgins and City of Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino are calling for expansion of the Amtrak route between Buffalo, Niagara Falls and Toronto to be a priority as the federal government plans to make investments in rail. The American Jobs Plan, the infrastructure package announced by President Joe Biden on March 31, proposes an $80 billion investment to expand and improve Amtrak service.
