The Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) has identified multiple COVID-19 cases among students and staff at St. Francis High School in Hamburg throughout the month of January. As of today, there are four staff members and 14 students with positive diagnostic COVID-19 tests during the past four weeks.

The City of North Tonawanda is looking to move forward with a tax anticipation note (TAN) - a short-term bond issued by a municipal government that will be repaid with future tax collections. The reason given is that the city is in the midst of a revenue shortfall and needs stop-gap funding until it begins to receive tax revenue in April.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced the expansion of Pine Pharmaceuticals LLC's manufacturing plant in the Town of Tonawanda. The drug outsourcing company - which moved to the 25,000-square-foot building at 355 Riverwalk Parkway in the Riverview Solar Technology Park in May of 2018 - will be tripling the size of the facility.

When a state judge opened the door to indoor dining for Erie County eating establishments last Thursday, Jan. 14, patrons beat feet into Grand Island restaurants. The patter of their feet was music to the ears of restaurant owners, who were more than ready to comply with the required COVID-safe measures of 50% capacity, 6-foot distance between tables, no more than four people per table and 10 p.m. closing.

The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance announced New Yorkers enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive a 15% increase to their monthly food benefits for January through June. In addition, all households will receive the maximum monthly benefit for January under the emergency food assistance that has been issued since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March.

The U.S. Small Business Administration, in consultation with the U.S. Treasury Department, reopened the Paycheck Protection Program loan portal to PPP-eligible lenders with $1 billion or less in assets for first- and second-draw applications on Friday. The portal will fully open on Tuesday, Jan. 19, to all participating PPP lenders to submit first- and second-draw loan applications to SBA.

Nowak, J.S.C., granted a preliminary injunction against a New York State Department of Health order placing portions of Erie County into a micro-cluster action initiative "orange zone." He allowed the almost 100 applicants permission to operate under "yellow zone" restrictions "pursuant to the DOH's Interim COVID-19 Guidance."
