Congressman Brian Higgins announced the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding over $6 million in funding to help small businesses in Erie and Niagara counties and a total of $19 million across Western New York. The funding was included in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act approved by the House of Representatives on March 27.

The centralized dashboard will provide real time, up-to-date information on COVID-19 cases, testing, and quarantine and isolation space availability across SUNY's 64 colleges and universities to more efficiently monitor, respond to, and contain the virus.

Community Services for Every1 received a federal grant from the Department of Justice through the Office of Violence against Women in the amount of $325,000 to fund its new domestic violence program to aid victims with a disability, and partner with the Family Justice Center and Niagara University to continue an ongoing collaborative designed to benefit people diagnosed with intellectual/developmental disabilities who have experienced domestic violence in Western New York.

In mid-July, Catholic Health and its foundations were notified by a third-party software vendor, Blackbaud Inc., of a cyber security breach that impacted the health system and other nonprofit organizations locally and throughout the country. The breach, which was part of a potential donor data base, included the names, medical record numbers, and dates of service for patients who received care in Catholic Health from 2016 through May of this year.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Saturday announced New York state's COVID-19 hospitalizations and intubations have dropped to new lows. Hospitalizations dropped to 458, the lowest number since March 16, and intubations dropped to 48, the lowest number since mid-March. New York state's infection rate has been less than 1% for 22 straight days - though it's been as high as 2% this week in Western New York.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Friday announced law enforcement agencies throughout the state issued 21,428 tickets for speeding during Speed Awareness Week, which ran from Aug. 6-12. During that time, officers also issued 30,273 tickets for other vehicle and traffic law violations, such as impaired and distracted driving.
