The New York State Division of Consumer Protection is reminding businesses and consumers about state law related to telemarketing activity during a declared state of emergency. On Dec. 18, 2019, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law a bill that prohibits unsolicited telemarketing sales calls to anyone in an area subject to a declared state of emergency.

Few people from the Sahlen family would have guessed - when we agreed to a 10-year naming rights agreement nearly 30 years after Sahlen Field opened - that our name would be associated to this extent with that of a Major League Baseball team's home. Andrew Cuomo on Friday announced the multiagency task force to combat violations of coronavirus-related regulations at bars and restaurants conducted nearly 1,100 compliance checks between July 21-23, documenting violations at 84 establishments. Today, the Department of Homeland Security announced it will lift its ban on the Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) for New York residents. After DHS cut off the TTP program in February, Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the State Legislature amended the law that prevents sharing of information to federal law enforcement officers who are working to protect the citizens of New York and the American people.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced the largest combined clean energy solicitations ever issued in the U.S., seeking up to 4,000 megawatts of renewable capacity to combat climate change. New York's second offshore wind solicitation seeks up to 2,500 megawatts of projects, the largest in the nation's history, in addition to last year's solicitation, which resulted in nearly 1,700 megawatts awarded.

As lawmakers consider additional legislation to address the ongoing health crisis and economic fallout from COVID-19, the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) sent a letter to Congress calling for additional help in several areas, including extending the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) for severely impacted businesses and their employees, creating targeted lending facilities and liquidity measures to help hoteliers meet debt service, and passing tax reforms to benefit both hotel employees and employers. Together, these provisions would help ensure hotels can retain and rehire employees, protect employees and guests, keep hotel doors open, and incentivize Americans to travel again when it's safe.

Eager to reunite residents with their loved ones, ESAAL immediately began working with its 300 members to begin implementing all of the previsitation requirements, including submitting a safety plan to the New York State Department of Health and developing a formal visitation plan to share with families and the public.

The Erie County Department of Environment and Planning announced $1.5 million in Emergency Solutions Grant ("ESG") funds from the federal CARES Act is coming to Erie County to be used for emergency shelter services for the homeless and potentially homeless populations, along with $320,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant ("CDBG") funding from the federal CARES Act for local food pantry assistance, allowing much greater outreach into many of Erie County's rural areas.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced New York will establish two testing sites in COVID-19 hotspots in Savannah, Georgia. The sites, located in Temple of Glory Community Church and Kingdom Life Christian Fellowship, will provide up to 500 tests per day. Both sites are located in highly impacted minority communities. The governor made today's announcement with Savannah Mayor Van R. Johnson II.

The New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) announced the launch of a new fentanyl campaign designed to prevent overdose deaths and empower the public with information needed to help save lives. The statewide "Prevent Overdose" campaign will run for four weeks and is designed to raise awareness about the perilous dangers of mixing fentanyl with illicit drugs such as counterfeit prescription pills, heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine (both powder and crack), ecstasy and others.

Donning hard hats and shovels, local officials joined administrators from the Niagara County SPCA for a groundbreaking ceremony Friday, as the organization gets set to begin construction on a $1.5 million state-of-the-art surgical suite. The end result will be a 2,000-square-foot facility complete with an X-ray room, which the SPCA said it's never had before.

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Niagara County Community College has decided to postpone its 30th annual Foundation Scholarship Gala. The event, originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute, will now be held in spring 2021. No official date has been set at this time.

The officers of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association voted to delay the official start date of the fall 2020 sports season, cancel the fall 2020 regional and state championships, and prepare to implement a condensed season schedule in January 2021 if high school sports remain prohibited throughout 2020 due to COVID-19. This decision comes at the recommendation of the NYSPHSAA COVID-19 task force when it convened as a working group for the third time Thursday morning.
