Ruffolo: We need our ventilators

In response to the governor's executive order for the removal of excess ventilators from upstate hospitals to those downstate, Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, the only independent hospital in Western New York, stands side-by-side with our partnering health systems in Erie County on holding onto the scarce and precious resources we have to save lives in Niagara County and surrounding areas.

Higgins: Nearly $20 million in COVID-19 emergency funding for Western New York communities

Congressman Brian Higgins announced Western New York will receive over $19.939 million in federal emergency funding to help local communities respond to and recover from the COVID-19 outbreak. The funding was included in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act recently approved by Congress to address urgent public health and economic crisis.
Higgins: $61.3 million-plus for public transportation in WNY

Congressman Brian Higgins, D-NY-26, and his colleagues on the House of Representatives Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security requested and won agreement by the U.S. Department of Treasury to automatically provide stimulus checks to senior citizens who are Social Security recipients - reversing course on previous directives that would have required seniors to complete forms to receive the COVID-19 relief payment.

Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Sunday announced all "New York State on PAUSE" functions will be extended for the next two weeks. He also directed the state nonessential workforce to continue to work from home for an additional two weeks, through April 15. The state will re-evaluate after this additional two-week period.

This is 10 more than our last report and continues the upward trend. Our public health nurses have been working with these individuals all weekend. Cuomo on Sunday accepted the recommendation of the Army Corps of Engineers for four temporary hospital sites in New York state in an effort to address imminent capacity issues resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. The governor visited the four sites - the Jacob K. State of emergency expands in North Tonawanda

A State of Emergency for the City of North Tonawanda as was declared under Section 24 of New York State Executive Law which preserves public safety. In line with this declaration effective Sunday March 22, 2020 at 7 pm all City Municipal playgrounds, pavilions, and athletic fields including tennis and basketball courts, disc golf, and softball fields will be closed. Swings will be removed by the Parks Dept, and all facilities will be closed until further notice. Walking/riding on trails is still permitted. Working in conjunction with the schools, County Health dept. and the State we are trying to prevent the spread of COVID 19.
