The Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce's almost-annual display of scarecrows has again taken to local streets. Business owners celebrated the fall/Halloween season by constructing colorful effigies symbolic of their industry or trade.

On Wednesday, Heart, Love & Soul Executive Director Mark Baetzhold and Assistant Executive Director Pam Dixon received a donation of 4,500 pounds of nonperishable canned and dried food commodities from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Delivery assistance came from the local Niagara Falls ward and its members, and the team from Buffalo Tungsten, which has been housing and distributing the food deliveries in Western New York.

Niagara Falls Heritage Arts, the public art initiative of the Niagara Falls National Heritage Area, has announced its fall 2020 mural season with three artists lined up for "NF Murals." The project was initiated in 2019 for a successful season with eight artists. It's designed to connect the public with contemporary art, showcasing the area's rich heritage and culture.

On Tuesday, the Niagara Falls Music Hall of Fame announced its 2020 inductees at a small, private event at the Evening Star Concert Hall. This year's inductees are Marsha McWilson, Seven Day Faith, Thom Rotella, Michael Hatalak, D'Amico Music, Thomas Nelson and Charles Chiarenza. Additionally, a Niagara Falls Music Support Award in honor of the late Dr. Samuel "Saxman" Morreale was presented to Thomas Proctor IV (aka Thomas Loop).

Last weekend, Jesse Gooch, owner of Painters Plus, several of the company's employees, and a handful of volunteers washed, primed and painted the house of Steven and Cindy Kureczka of Zimmerman Street in North Tonawanda, the chosen winners for the 10th annual Project H.O.P.E. (Helping Others Paint Exteriors). The project is an annual citywide contest that offers a free exterior home paint job to homeowners in need.

SPCA's "Paws for Love" program was recently approved for stress relief events for essential workers. As such, the pups visited Mount St. Mary's Hospital for some stress-reducing therapy on Thursday, in the grassy grove between Mount St. Mary's and Our Lady of Peace Nursing Home. Pet owners and their sweet dogs greeted hospital staff, physicians and nurses.
