New York State Sen. Chris Jacobs announced a major funding award of $500,000 to support the construction of a new science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education center at Cradle Beach Camp. The Western New York STEM Center for Youth will become a year-round destination for school groups and youth agencies seeking to provide hands-on experiential learning. The estimated cost of the project is slightly under $1 million.

Michael J. Prendergast, chairperson of the Food Bank of WNY's board of directors, announced Monday the board selected Tara A. Ellis as the organization's new president and CEO. Ellis, who currently serves as the president and CEO of both Meals on Wheels for Western New York and the Meals on Wheels Foundation of WNY, will succeed Marylou Borowiak as of Oct. 23.

With a finish time of one hour and 14 minutes, Allie Kieffer of Williamsville is not only mighty, she became the first ever female overall winner of The Mighty Niagara Half Marathon on Saturday, Sept. 16. The half-marathon, held in conjunction with the Hospice Dash 5K, brought in runners from around the country and the world with athletes coming from as far away as Mexico and Australia.

Six members of the 914th Civil Engineer Squadron departed Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station bound for Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida, where they will support recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Irma. A 911th Airlift Wing C-130 out of Pittsburgh Air Reserve Station provided the transport.

"Flat Man," a 30-foot steel sculpture, will be located on the Greenway Nature Trail near the water's edge.
