The American Legion National Convention held its 2024 National Concert Band Contest in Indianapolis on Aug. 24, drawing bands from around the country to New Orleans to compete in the American Legion National Concert Band Contest. Top honors were awarded to the American Legion Band of the Tonawandas, with a score of 96.7.

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced 36-year-old Ashley M. Holmes of Kenmore was sentenced this morning before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio. She received the maximum sentence of 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison.
Buffalo woman pleads guilty to manslaughter for fatally stabbing her boyfriend

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced 49-year-old Charrinda Gray of Buffalo pleaded guilty yesterday morning before State Supreme Court Justice Paul B. Wojtaszek to one count of manslaughter in the second degree (class "C" felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge in full satisfaction of the indictment.
NFHS to host veterans appreciation event

The Niagara County Department of Health confirmed a rabid bat on Wilson-Burt Road, Town of Wilson, on Aug. 8. The bat was found outdoors on Aug. 4. No pets were implicated. The Niagara County nursing division will assess any possible human exposure and recommend any post-exposure rabies treatment as appropriate.
