New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the April 1 start of the spring trout fishing season, which provides excellent angling opportunities thanks to DEC's extensive stocking program and wild trout fisheries. DEC stocks nearly 1.9 million trout in waters statewide, beginning in March and lasting until early June.

All graduating high school seniors living in the Lewiston-Porter School District, including parochial and home-schooled seniors, are invited to apply for the Neil Riordan Memorial Scholarships sponsored annually by the Youngstown Lions Club in memory of former Youngstown Mayor Neil Riordan. Up to three recipients will be chosen this year to receive awards of $1,500 each.

Construction of the new, 60,000-square-foot Lockport Memorial Hospital (LMH) is proceeding at a record pace as a result of Catholic Health's continued collaboration with the New York State Department of Health, local government officials, and its construction partners. Ground was broken in November 2021 for the $62 million facility - the largest investment in eastern Niagara County in recent years - which is expected to open in September 2023.

USA Niagara Development Corp. (USAN) board of directors met today and approved items that will improve the quality of life and experience in Niagara Falls for both visitors and residents. One item will help meet the city's need for local housing and commercial spaces that will boost pedestrian activity. A second item will help to structurally stabilize a historic property at a state park for future use.

The Niagara Power Project's control room - the space that contains remote operating controls for the entire Niagara Power Project, including the Robert Moses Power Plant, the Lewiston Pump Generating Plant and associated switchyards - recently completed its first major upgrade since the plant was built over 60 years ago (in 1961).

Coming off a week leaders spent in New York City for the Association of Town's meetings, Monday's session of the Lewiston Town Board was one of transition. The meeting saw long-time Lewiston Councilman Bill Geiben declare his intentions to not seek reelection in 2023. Then came the sudden resignation of Cathy Cvijetinovic from her position as Lewiston Recreation Department director.
